A Mismatched Bickering Couple: Ella from [Bad Girls]; Mike He is Game to Take Her On!

With filming to commence in summer this year, [Bad Girls] – a youthful action romance comedy, directed by up and coming director Weng Jing Ting, has confirmed Mike He and Ella Chen Jia Hua as its male and female leads. Despite being their first onscreen collaboration, the 2 artistes shared good tacit understanding and chemistry as they are from the same company. The “senior” Ella, even pretended to bully Mike by pinching his cheek and saying, “I will ‘take good care’ of my junior.”

Looking Forward to Great Chemistry

About to begin their debut partnership in summer, Mike He and Ella Chen, have taken on the male and female lead roles for up and coming director, Weng Jing Ting’s youthful action romance comedy – [Bad Girls]. Although this is their first onscreen collaboration and experience in an action movie, both artistes have long shared great tacit understanding as they are from the same company. Being the “senior”, Ella purposely put on a show to bully Mike He, saying, “Junior, I will take good care of you!” Meanwhile “junior” Mike is ready to return a teasing act by pretending to worry that his upcoming intimate acting scenes with Ella would incur the jealousy of “someone out there”. Mike also added in a “grave” tone that he would exercise caution to not allow the “storyline to happen in real life” by accident. Then Mike went on to tease Ella further by reminding her to be both physically and emotionally prepared for what is to come to prevent apprehensions and barriers during filming. Hearing his words, Ella burst out laughing and pretended to acknowledge the “ good advice”. This bold yet funny exchange between the 2 artistes has already paved the way for everyone to eagerly look forward to their great chemistry even before filming starts.

A Story Beyond Another Story

In the movie, Ella plays A-Dan, a high school girl, together with Da Yuan’s role as Pei Pei and Fang Zhi You’s role as Xiao Mi; the trio formed a group known as “Huai Nv Hai aka Bad Girls” to undertake chivalrous acts and stand up against bullies. The storyline has it that the trio’s school was used as a filming site, and one day A-Dan (Ella) accidentally chanced upon the filming and by a twist of fate, ended up as the female lead of the film. With the opportunity, she also got to discover a side to the popular idol, Justin (played by Mike He), which others do not know. Hence the 2 very mismatched individuals embarked on a journey to develop a story of their own, beyond that of the “film”.

Forgotten: The Desires Deep in My Heart

In the movie, Justin (Mike) is an introvert. Mike shared, “Justin is one who is often suppressing his feelings and tend to hide all his thoughts and emotions deep down.” As for “bad girl” A-Dan (Ella), Ella joked, “She is not bad, literally. A-Dan is an innocent, kind-hearted, adorable and simple girl. Like myself, A-Dan is one who has a strong sense of righteousness.” In addition, Mike is not only a popular idol in the movie, but also a great baker. Hence the production team specially invited a renowned international champion chef baker from Taiwan to be a consultant for Mike’s role in the movie. Not knowing how to bake prior to this, Mike seized the chance to pick up baking skills from the chef, with the dual benefits of not only putting up a convincing act for his role, but also to bake world-class bread to satisfy his own taste buds.

Having Sufficient Time to Understand the Role

Since he rose to fame from acting, Mike has been busy filming for idol serials and movies from Hong Kong and China. This year, with the arrangement to take on a role in a Taiwan movie, Mike expressed his joy, “Because of many factors and time constraints, I have not been able to participate in Taiwan movies, so I am looking forward to this collaboration. While filming movies in China and Hong Kong, I was under a lot of time constraint. This time I had more time to study the storyline and prepare myself to better understand the role. We also had the opportunity to rehearse through the script with fellow artistes, hence I believe that this will definitely help when filming begins!”
