Ever since her accident on the set of I Have a Date with Spring, not only did Taiwanese starlet Selina Jen's injuries come under media attention, so did her love with fiancé Richard Chang.
A few days ago, Father Jen and Selina's younger sister Kristen Jen accepted an interview on Shen Chun Hua Life Show. The host presented a letter Selina had secretly written to her father.
"My body is given by my parents; I'm not filial for injuring it," wrote Selina, whose words brought tears to everyone present.
Father Jen recalled the day he rushed to Shanghai after the accident. Apart from asking the doctor if Selina's face and internal organs were fine, he also posed an awkward question.
"Was her private part burnt? I'm worried it would affect her child-bearing. I had to think of Richard. Luckily the worst injuries were on her legs. Her voice and the part which I was worried about were fine," revealed Father Jen.
When asked what Selina did at the first instance when she was injured, Father Jen described his feelings as "unbelievable".
"Everyone knows that when you're burnt, you need to 'rinse, take off, submerge [in water], cover up and send [to hospital]. Before Selina was sent to the hospital in Shanghai, she was sent to a small hospital. During the four hours she was there, she called friends to help look for hospitals before walking to the toilet bare-footed to rinse her legs with water," said Father Jen.
When he was asked about Selina's relationship with Richard, Father Jen said after he saw how badly his daughter was burnt, he told Richard that he would agree if he wanted to cancel their wedding engagement.
"[He] doesn't have to accept all these, but he did. I now believe my daughter has found someone who would take care of her for the rest of her life. They would be together until they're old," said Father Jen.
He added that the wedding date would be left in the hands of the couple. However, it would not deviate too far from the actual date, which was Apr 1.
It was reported that Richard wanted to keep the wedding date and settle down quickly. Father Jen also felt that it would be the greatest encouragement to Selina
