An on-set accident cost Taiwanese starlet Selina Jen 89 days in the hospital and probably, a lifetime of nightmares.
At 2pm yesterday, Selina met the media for the first time since her accident. The singer looked chubbier than before her accident. Father Jen revealed that Selina initially weighed 48kg, but had put on as much as 5kg after nourishments. She is gradually losing weight these days.
There were visible wounds on Selina's face. However, as she had second degree burns previously, the new skin on her face is still thin. The color of her skin was also uneven. Whenever Selina is highly emotional, her face would turn red.
"Her road to recovery is still long and arduous," said Selina's doctor.
He expressed that while the skin on her face should heal, her worst injuries, which were at her legs, waist and arms, would probably take a year or two of therapy before healing fully. However, the doctor was optimistic about Selina returning to perform on stage.
Recently, fiancé Richard Chang's father Chang Shi Liang gave his future daughter-in-law a bronze Buddha statue, hoping that the Buddha would bless Selina through her therapies.
The older Chang expressed that both him and his son were very concerned about Selina's injuries since her accident and had visited her at the hospital many times.
While Chang was worried that Richard would overwork himself, because he would work in the day and visit Selina at night, he was certain that the visits from Richard would aid the girl's recovery.
Chang added that Richard and Selina's wedding would have to depend on Selina's health.
In other related reports, Selina's celebrity friends left congratulatory and encouraging messages on microblogging site Weibo after news of her discharge was released.
Taiwanese pop diva Jolin Tsai wrote: "You set a new benchmark for the word 'strong'. You're really awesome. All the best, Princess Nana (an affectionate nickname for Selina Jen)."
Queen of Cantopop Sammi Cheng called Selina a "brave fighter" while Taiwanese host Dee Hsu wrote, "All the best, Selina. You're the most beautiful princess ever, because you have a soft, but strong heart."
Selina's rumoured ex-boyfriend Taiwanese singer-actor Show Luo also encouraged the girl publicly, wishing her all the best for her recovery. He was also glad that Selina could celebrate Lunar New Year at home.
